5 reasons why we use WordPress

Last updated: October 9, 2019

It is the most used content management system (CMS) in the world

WordPress is installed on over 30% of all websites in the world and in terms of market share among the CMS’ it leads by far with around 60% market share. To put it in perspective, the second most used CMS is Joomla with around 6% market share. That it is being used so much has a lot of advantages. It means that most developers around the globe are developing for WordPress, resulting in a better, more secure, faster and more versatile platform for everyone to use. Simply put, we use it because it is getting developed and tested very regularly.

It serves any type of website

WordPress is so versatile that it allows being used for any type of website. The most popular purpose has always been a Blog (like the one you are reading), but due to extensions like WooCommerce, you can easily turn it into a user-friendly e-commerce store. And this is only one example of what is possible. You can also use WordPress for informational websites, news sites, knowledge bases, forums, membership areas, ticket sales, booking and reservation systems and much, much more. The sky is the limit.

It is SEO friendly

WordPress as a CMS is very Search Engine Friendly. All the big search engines like Google or Bing seem to outrank websites that run on WordPress over websites that don’t. The software is created with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) in mind and all further development will do so as well. With WordPress, it is easy to manage the SEO per page and there are plenty of plugins available to make this even more simple. WordPress uses what is called ‘SEO-Friendly URL´s’, otherwise known as ‘Permalinks’. If you including your main keyword into your permalinks, then your SEO-score will improve and if you combine WordPress with powerful hosting, your pages will load fast. Google uses the ‘page load time’ to rank all websites. A slow website has a higher ‘bounce rate’ and is, therefore, less popular on the internet, especially when you try to load a page with a poor (mobile) internet connection. You can see and evaluate your own page speed with Google’s own tool PageSpeed Insights.

It is future proof

Due to its huge Community, WordPress has a very bright future set. The main software, as well as all plugins and extensions, are improving every single day and will continue to do so. It is not just about improving or getting new fancy features, but it also includes the security updates we all need nowadays. Sometimes updating can be difficult. Especially when you have a custom website with interlinking functionality. If you update one end, then you have to update the rest as well.
